Big Mountain Research & Development Center - also known as Big MT or BMRDC - is a top level research and development center located in the southwestern United States of America.

"I would ask you to consider - in the end we will be judged...not by what we have destroyed...but what we have created."

  • Doctor C. Belgrove, Big MT

Facilities[edit | edit source]

Center[edit | edit source]

  • The Dome
    • The Sink - Perched atop the Dome, it is a private recreation and dining facility for the Executive Staff.
    • Big MT Operations Center - Located at the heart of the Dome, this complex of rooms is where all activities within Big Mountain are coordinated and overseen. From here one also finds the private offices of the Executive Staff. (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was The "Think Tank".)

North[edit | edit source]

  • X-42 Weapons Development Facility - All weapons and ordnance R&D is conducted here. A very large, heavily armored and shielded chamber in the center of the facility serves as a testing area for observing the combat and operational abilities of weapons in development. (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "X-42 Robo-Warfare Facility".)
  • Signal Hill Transmitter - The primary internal communications array, used by the facilities within Big MT for passing messages, and information back and forth. (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "Signal Hills Transmitter".)
  • X-22 Botanical Research Facility - Primary location of all botanical R&D. (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "X-22 Botanical Garden".)
  • X-17 Meteorological Research Facility - Central site for meteorological and environmental R&D. (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "X-17 Meteorological Station".)
  • Y-0 Advanced Systems Facility - Home of various advanced R&D on systems ranging from power production to matter recombination technology. (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "Y-0 Research Center".)

  • Loading Station - Central platform for loading and unloading trains coming into and leaving Big MT.
  • North Rail Tunnel - The shortest of the three Big MT rail tunnels, it grants the northern rail line access to the complex.
  • Waste Disposal Station - All waste materials in Big MT are sent here to be reprocessed or destroyed as required. (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "Waste Disintegration Platform".)

East[edit | edit source]

  • X-7b "Boom Town" Target Zone - Essentially a modular construction area, this site is able to be remodeled and built into everything from a regular residential neighborhood to a block of typical office buildings and small businesses. Each time it is destroyed, crews rebuild it in a different layout. It is the fixed target site for ordnance launches from X-7a. Its nickname, “Boom Town”, is the same as that used on similar structures used by the military for weapons testing.
  • Z-9 Pharmacological Facility - (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "Z-9 Crotalus DNA Preservation Lab".)
  • Z-14 Genetics Facility - (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "Z-14 Pepsinae DNA Splicing Lab".)
  • X-8 Bioengineering Facility - (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "X-8 Research Center".)
  • Hazmat Testing Facility - (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "Hazmat Testing Ground".)
  • Magnetodynamics Research Facility - (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "Magnetohydraulics Complex".)
  • Robotics Service Plant - All robotics R&D and production takes place here. (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "Securitron Deconstruction Plant".)

  • East Rail Tunnel

West[edit | edit source]

  • Materials Research Facility - Site of dedicated to R&D related to the development, testing, and production of advanced alloys and composites. One of its most famous pre-War developments was the ceramic-metallic composite known as Saturnite. (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "Saturnite Alloy Research Facility".)
  • X-66 Architectural Research Facility - (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "X-66 Hexacrete Archipelago".)
  • X-13 Optics Facility - (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "X-13 Testing Facility".)
  • Z-43 Innovative Toxins Facility - (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "Z-38 Innovative Toxins Plant".)
  • Z-38 Lightwave Dynamics Facility - (This location's FO:NV:OWB name was "Z-38 Lightwave Dynamics Research".)
  • X-7a "Left Field" Artillery Launch

  • West Rail Tunnel

South[edit | edit source]

  • Higgs Village
  • X-12 Research Center
  • Y-17 Medical Facility - From here, all medical, psychological, and surgical research and development is carried out. Likewise, Y-17 houses the main infirmary for all of Big MT, and critical cases and severe injuries are brought here immediately.
  • X-2 Transmitter Antenna Array - The master communications array for Big MT, it serves as the main satellite uplink between the complex and the outside world, connecting it to Washington DC and other important locations. Likewise, it communicates with the Big MT satellite network used for a variety of scientific and communications purposes. Its functions are controlled remotely from the Operations Center. Aside from continuing to monitor Big MT's satellites, it has stood silent since the Great War.

Others[edit | edit source]

  • Cyberdogs
  • Lobotomites - Surgically-altered humans, the result of medical experiments performed at Big MT. Most were previously residents of the Wasteland near to the complex, who were unfortunate enough to have been caught wandering too close to the perimeter, and were seized by service drones and having all of their central organs replaced by electronic equivalents at Y-17. The Tesla coils that replace their brains allow individuals thus transformed to cognitively function with relative normalcy, operating their bodies remotely. This routine was designed post-War to keep all inhabitants of Big MT inside and the location of the complex a secret. Only an intact human body, with its brain, can bypass the radar fence without acquiring the access codes of the Faculty. Lobotomites are only capable of simple tasks such as using doors, walking, basic menial work, and fighting hand-to-hand or with firearms. They are actively hostile to almost anything that isn't either a robot at Big MT or a member of the Faculty, towards whom they show a considerable fear tinged respect. Several among the Faculty call them "skinvelopes." It is unknown what method the Faculty uses to exercise control over them, but regular announcements over the PA system seem to be obeyed without question. Lobotomites give a wide berth to the Protectrons which maintain the facilities of Big MT, and will actually hide from passing Assaultrons or Sentry Bots. While outside visitors (though rare) are almost universally puzzled by these quiet workers, no one has yet pried into their origins. When visitors do inquire of them, they are admonished by the Faculty to pay them no mind, being told, "They keep the place tidy. We provide for their needs. It's that simple."
