INFRA is an exploration, adventure, and puzzle-solving alternative history game setting developed by Atomic Lion Studios.

Setting[edit | edit source]

The game takes place in Belokovia, a fictional nation which occupies the same territory as Finland. In this world, Belokovia was a part of the Russian Empire from the turn of the 19th century until 1920, when the country seceded in the height of the Russian Revolution. It would go on to resist a full-scale invasion by the Soviet Army in 1939. The country remained neutral during World War 2 while allowing refugees from war-torn states to find safety there. In the post-war era, it would build a prosperous society with a capitalist economy and strong social services.

Beginning in 1988, cracks began to show in the Eastern bloc as Moscow started losing control of the Baltic states and the Caucasus descended into civil war and chaos. The government of the period in Belokovia, which had been working towards closer ties with the USSR, saw its popularity dramatically decline as anti-Soviet sentiment among Belikovans grew stronger. When the 1991 general election came, the ruling party lost massively to the opposition, breaking a 12-year tenure for the left wing parties. In the following years, information came to light of a conspiracy throughout the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s where funding intended for maintenance of vital infrastructure and public transport was instead rerouted to officials in the government and unions. Ultimately several prominent politicians and union leaders were arrested and prosecuted for corruption, graft, and illegal patronage.

This is where you, the player, come in. The year is 2005. You and your colleagues are engineers with the National Consulting Group (Национальная Консалтинговая Группа or НКГ), an up and coming engineering and architectural consultation firm that has earned a reputation for honesty and efficiency as several of its older, more established competitors were brought down by the wide-ranging corruption investigation. NCG has recently received an expansive contract to survey and identify problems with a variety of systems and structures that need service. This includes water, public transport, and communications infrastructure, primarily around the nation's capital city of Cherenovsk.
