Emberstone is the working title for a high fantasy MMORPG world building project currently being crafted by author Tom Brown. Work on the setting, and story, first began in 2009, and has proceeded gradually ever since. The entire project is dedicated to the memory of Tom's mother, Phyllis Brown, who passed away on 9 October 2020.

Main factions[edit | edit source]

Determined States[edit | edit source]

The alliance of northern nations. Their strength is in a combination of technology, arcane magic, and firepower and they approach challenges with reason and logic. Their agnostic outlook is influenced by the religious wars of the Shattered Banners period which nearly tore the Northlands apart. In the place of religion, the States uphold the Six Virtues: Reason, Logic, Liberty, Justice, Compassion, and Truth. The States formulate collective policy through a body known as the Wise Council, where the leaders of the member nations meet four times a year and consists of two representatives from each nation. Special sessions are called in the event of emergencies.

Radiant League[edit | edit source]

The alliance of southern nations. They believe they are blessed by the gods of the Circle Celestial and their strength is a blend of holy weaponry, light magic, and disciplined tactics. Faith united the Southlands in the aftermath of the Shattered Banners period and is seen as their common cause, providing guidance and protection to their works.

  • Keepers - The
  • Last Regiment - An elite military unit of the Combined Forces of the Determined States deployed on sensitive and important missions.

  • Zaldanai - A secretive circle of arcanists who provide specialised magic support to the States, focusing primarily on protecting them from Ucrelnach incursions.

Lore[edit | edit source]

Ionorath[edit | edit source]

The greatest Precursor city. It floated on the waters of the Claresomin Sea and visited various points along the continental coast. When the Precursors vanished from Achirion, the city disappeared as well. Rumors and scraps of information found since suggest that the city went to the bottom of the sea to protect its technology and secrets, but there is no corroboration for this.

From an out of game perspective, three important locations across Achirion are connected to the legend of the missing city: the Shattered City of TBD, the Great Lighthouse, and the Sea Gate.

Circle Celestial[edit | edit source]

The pantheon of benevolent deities who watch over Achirion. Once worshipped by the peoples of the north and south, their adherents hail almost exclusively from the south in modern times.

  • TBD, the Blessed Light - goddess of hope, memories, and change
  • TBD, the Nurturer - god of nature, growth, and fertility
  • Lavros, the Arbiter - god of justice, order, and protection
  • Yion, the Sage - god of wisdom, knowledge, and enlightenment
  • Vantia, the Provider - goddess of work, commerce, and progress
  • TBD, the Compassionate - goddess of mercy, healing, and service
  • TBD, the Wayfarer - god of language, travel, and community

Dread Covenant[edit | edit source]

A cabal of sinister, powerful demonic entities whose followers believe them to be gods (though they aren't). They seek to destroy the influence of the Circle Celestial and envelope the world in darkness and misery.

  • TBD, the Wraith Queen - death and darkness, rules over the spirits of the damned and the lost
  • Zarinar, the Corruptor - corruption and decay, entices mortals to commit dark deeds and indulge their vices
  • TBD, the Unfathomable - chaos and madness, revels in the unraveling of sanity and order
  • TBD, the Whispering Shade - secrets and forbidden knowledge, offers dark truths to those who seek her counsel
  • Nemjir, the Shadow Weaver - deception and illusion, a master of darkness who manipulates the minds of mortals
  • Kemerin, the Blood Lord - blood and sacrifice, demands offerings of life in return for eldritch power and blessings
  • TBD, the Twilight Mistress - dreams and nightmares, blurs the lines between reality and the dark recesses of the mind
